A tooth extraction is a routine procedure at our dental practice here in Irving, TX. The procedure generally includes an x-ray to assess the location, positioning, size and area around the tooth to be removed so we can determine the extent of the extraction process. A front tooth for example, has a single root which would require a less extensive procedure than a molar would, which has multiple roots. Next, we determine the level of anesthesia that will keep you numb and comfortable throughout the procedure.
Once the tooth is removed, it can be replaced with a dental implant or a bridge so you will retain your smile and chewing ability.
Two Types Of Extractions
Simple Tooth Extractions
If your tooth is above the gum line and not impacted, Dr. Thirtha can then perform a simple extraction. After administering a local anesthetic to numb your mouth, she then carefully loosens your tooth with forceps and removes it.
Complex Tooth Extractions
A surgical tooth extraction is a more complex procedure, which is used if a tooth may have broken off at the gum line or has not erupted in the mouth. With complex extractions, Dr. Thirtha will provide the necessary medication to make sure you’re pain free throughout the process.
Once your complex tooth extraction is complete, our staff will provide you with instructions on how to care for yourself throughout the healing process and are available for whatever support you may need.
