If You Have a Painful or Clicking Jaw It May Be TMJ / TMD
TMJ is an abbreviation for the temporomandibular joints that are in front of the ear on both sides of the jaw. TMJ disorders are referred to as TMD, where the “d” stands for “dysfunction.”
Your temporomandibular joint connects your jaw to your skull and is one of the most complex joints in your body. This joint is responsible for talking, chewing, yawning as well as other functions and when it is out of alignment, it can lead to a neuromuscular disorder of the jaw, which can cause chronic jaw pain, teeth damage, and other painful symptoms throughout your body. This condition is commonly known as TMJ and TMD.
Symptoms of TMD/TMD Can Include:
-
Pain, aching or tenderness in the jaw & face
-
Discomfort when biting and chewing
-
Grating, popping or clicking sounds in the jaw
-
Difficulty opening your mouth
-
Headaches, earaches and migraines
-
Loss of hearing
-
